History
Like many other credit unions around the world, New Trier Federal Credit Union grew from the needs of employees for a place where they could save together and borrow from their savings. In 1958, teachers at New Trier Township High School in Winnetka established a credit union that they operated out of a broom closet in the school. Similarly, in 1969, teachers at Evanston Township High School began their own credit union, the Evanston Township Credit Union. In 1984, these two groups merged to form the current New Trier Federal Credit Union. Since then, the CU has grown and expanded as it has added other similar membership groups to its ranks.
